Frank Lloyd Wright
(1867-1959)
The work of America's most widely acclaimed architect was crucial to twentieth-century architectural development. He designed not only buildings and residences but also their furniture, fabrics, fixtures-and even landscaping-to create a unified whole. Mr. Wright often incorporated decorative elements into architectural components; these geometric and organic patterns now enliven new collections of jewelry and personal and home accessories. His designs for the interiors and furnishings of his buildings stretched the boundaries of design at the time. In the process he exerted a profound influence on the development of twentieth-century architecture and decorative arts. The Museum of Modern Art is an official licensee of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
