Vasa
(b. 1933)
An academically trained painter, Yugoslavian-born Vasa is best known for his luminous prism sculptures. For more than 30 years, he has been working with laminated acrylic forms based on simple Euclidean shapes the triangle, square, circle, and rectangle-to study the absorption and reflection of pure light. His sculptures are composed of layered filters of colored planes that vary according to the source and placement of ambient light. Vasa's monumental sculptures can be seen in the permanent collections of museums in the US, Europe, and Asia.
