Product Description

Nesting Tables

Contrary to the popular conception of Bauhaus furniture as neutrally-toned tubular steel, Bauhaus designers often integrated color into their furniture. Carrying over principles of color theory taught in the preliminary course, Bauhaus designers created functional designs that can also be seen as abstract compositions in three dimensions. Best known for his geometric paintings, many of which are featured in the Museum’s collection, Josef Albers applied the same precision and logic to furniture while director of the Bauhaus workshop. These versatile tables are designed to work "independently and interdependently." Set of 4.

This influential school of avant-garde art, design, and architecture of the twentieth century was a vibrant laboratory for redefining artistic practice in the modern age. Founded in 1919 and shut down by the Nazis in 1933, the Bauhaus brought together artists, architects, and designers in an extraordinary conversation about the nature of art in the age of technology. Aiming to rethink the very form of modern life, the Bauhaus became the site of a dazzling array of experiments in the visual arts that have profoundly shaped our visual world today.
