Akari Beehive Table Lamp
Isamu Noguchi, 1950s
Lamps from the Akari "light" series have been represented in the Museum's design collection since the 1950s, when electrified versions of the traditional Japanese lantern were designed by sculptor Isamu Noguchi to revive Japan's paper lantern industry. Like its ancestors, this delicate, slightly asymmetric table lamp is made from handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame.
Accommodates up to 60-watt bulb (not included).
