Akari Table Lamp
Isamu Noguchi, 1950
Lamps from the Akari "light" series have been represented in the Museum's design collection since the 1950s, when electric versions of the traditional Japanese lantern were designed by sculptor Isamu Noguchi to revive Japan's paper lantern industry. Traditionally designed, this delicate table lamp is made from handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame. Accommodates up to a 40-watt bulb (not included). Made of paper and metal.
