An Atlas of Drawings: Transforming Chronologies (HC)
Essay by Luis Pérez-Oramas
This volume complements a two-part exhibition that looks at The Museum of Modern Art's drawings collection from a nonchronological viewpoint. It explores visual relationships between artworks in six different groupings--Faces, Movement, Tectonics, Digital, Figures, and Constructions--emphasizing repetition, seriality, and permutations of themes, structures, and motifs through the placement and juxtaposition of works. The six groupings offer a view of the practice of modern drawing based exclusively on the works themselves rather than the traditional focus on artistic movements, tendencies, and influences. Includes 182 color illustrations.
