Bauhaus Chessmen And Board
Josef Hartwig, 1923
A master craftsman in the Bauhaus wood-carving workshop, sculptor Josef Hartwig became well- known for his architectural chess set. Typical of timeless Bauhaus design, the set's 32 pieces are shaped like cubes, cylinders, and balls – minimalist forms which represent the way they move on the board. Made of maple wood. Chess pieces come in a wood case which includes instructions for play and the design's history. Chess board sold separately. Ages 6 and up.
Product selected to accompany Bauhaus 1919–1933: Workshops for Modernity.
