Eames® Low Side Chair
Charles and Ray Eames, 1946
It is hard to imagine now, but the use of plywood and chrome-plated steel in residential furniture was considered edgy, risky, and thoroughly new when this chair made its 1946 debut. It is modern, lightweight, strong, sculptural, and a complete departure from what furniture was.
Today this Charles and Ray Eames design has reached a level of acceptance perhaps best expressed by the number of imitations marketed worldwide. This licensed version is manufactured by the Herman Miller® Company of five-ply molded plywood and chrome-plated legs.
