Eames® Wire Base Table
Charles Eames, 1950
This table was developed after years of experimenting with wire mesh and rods-work that yielded many breakthrough products that have become classics of modern design. The 10-inch-high table employs two U-shaped wire rods and cross-members attached to the top, the edges of which are beveled at 20 degrees to reveal its plywood layers. The table's diminutive stature makes it suitable for a Japanese-style tea ceremony; the Eameses actually used these tables for such an event with a guest list that included Isamu Noguchi and Charlie Chaplin. Made of seven-ply Baltic birch with a high-pressure laminate top and a zinc-plated wire base, it is available in black or white. Made by Herman Miller®.
