Product Description

House of Cards

Famed designers Charles and Ray Eames created this popular picture-card deck, featured in the Museum’s collection. Each card depicts a different familiar object from the animal, mineral, or vegetable kingdoms. Six slots on each card interlock for building the house of cards of your dreams. Small set contains 54 cards. Medium set contains 32 cards. Giant set contains 20 cards.

This product was offered in conjunction with MoMA's exhibition Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900-2000, an overview of the modernist preoccupation with children and childhood as a paradigm for progressive design thinking. The Museum's Department of Architecture and Design brings together school architecture, clothing, playgrounds, toys and games, children's hospitals and safety equipment, nurseries, furniture, and books to examine individual and collective visions for the material world of children.

About the Designers

Charles Eames & Ray Eames

Husband-and-wife design team Charles (1907-1978) and Ray (1912-1988) Eames were among the most influential designers of the twentieth century. Their landmark contributions include furniture, architecture, film, and graphics. They were pioneers in the molding of plywood, which was developed from their experiments and projects for the U.S. Navy. Their association with the Museum goes back to 1940, with a joint entry with Eero Saarinen in the MoMA competition "Organic Design in Home Furnishings." Since then nearly 100 examples of their work have entered the Museum's design collection.
