Miniature Chair, Mies Barcelona Chair MR90
Mies van der Rohe, 1929
These collectible miniatures painstakingly replicate important chairs in the development of twentieth-century furniture design, many of which are represented in MoMA's design collection. Developed by the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, each chair is crafted in the original materials and is packed in its own wooden shipping crate with a descriptive brochure. Mies van der Rohe designed the German pavilion for the Barcelona World's Fair of 1929 and created the furniture therein, including his famous scissors-shaped chair, reinterpreting the ancient Egyptian symbol of power. Crafted in the original materials, it is reproduced here at a scale of 1:6.
