Miniature Chair, Panton Chairs
Verner Panton, 1960
These collectible miniatures painstakingly replicate important chairs in the development of twentieth-century furniture design, many of which are represented in MoMA's design collection. Developed by the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, each chair is crafted in the original materials and is packed in its own wooden shipping crate with a descriptive brochure. The first serially produced cantilever-base chair made of plastic, this classic by Verner Panton went through various stages until new plastic technology was sufficiently developed to produce a strong, flexible one-piece chair-and retain the original sculptural integrity. Made of molded, dyed polypropylene, the chair is reproduced here at a scale of 1:6. Set of five: blue, black, red, white, and yellow.
