Miniature Chair, Tulip
Eero Saarinen
These collectible miniatures painstakingly replicate important chairs in the development of twentieth-century furniture design, many of which are represented in MoMA's design collection. Developed by the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, each chair is crafted in the original materials and is packed in its own wooden shipping crate with a descriptive brochure. For a series of chairs, stools, and tables, Eero Saarinen designed a unifying structure-a slender wineglass-like stem support-and used a unifying material, both of which are seen in this chair. Made of lacquered polyurethane, it is reproduced here at a scale of 1:6.
