Monet Impressions in Music (CD)
The musical selections on this CD explore, contemplate and recall the same imagery and themes as Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings: gardens, flowers, water, reflections, Springtime, sunsets and pastoral beauty. The works are composed by the leading French Impressionist composers, including Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Faure and Jacques Ibert, all of whom were contemporaries of Monet. This is the music of nature, both beautiful and evocative. As Debussy remarked, "There is nothing more musical than a sunset. He who feels what he sees will find no more beautiful example of development in all that book which, alas, musicians read but too little—the book of Nature."
